For your Jeep, buying an insurance policy that comprises own damage to car insurance policy is a good idea, as it covers you in case of a natural disaster, rain, accident and even theft.
What does own damage to car insurance not cover?
- Damages to a third party vehicle (If you want coverage for both - own as well as third party damages then buy comprehensive Car insurance)
- Damage caused to a third-party property
- Injuries caused to other people in an accident
- Normal wear-and-tear of the vehicle
- Mechanical and electrical breakdown
- A vehicle being used other than in accordance with the limitations as to use. For example, if you use your Private car for commercial purposes
- Damage to/by person driving without a valid driving license
- Loss or damage caused while riding under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating substance
- Consequential loss
Third party Insurance
Third-Party policy covers Jeep vehicle in case of any damage to a third-party individual or property caused by your insured Jeep. It includes any bodily harm or disability caused to the third-person or property damage. Do note that third-party car insurance is mandatory and driving without one is a punishable offence
Choose one or more add-on covers such as Depreciation cover, engine loss cover, key loss cover to safeguard your Jeep from potential financial harm.
What are the documents required to settle a claim?
In order to raise a valid claim, you will need a certain set of documentation. Have the details of your policy like the policy number ready. The car details such as make and model, along with the chassis number will be required. The complete details of the policyholder will be required. Car registration book, proof of insurance, tax receipt, the driving licence of the insured driver need to be given. Complete details of the accident including where and when it happened, a copy of the FIR (if there is a third-party involved) lodged need to be submitted, too.
The team at LGI will further help you understand what kind of documentation you need to raise a claim.
What is preferable? Only third-party insurance or comprehensive car insurance?
A Third-party liability cover or insurance is mandatory under law in India. However, a comprehensive car insurance covers Third-Party liability as well as damage incurred by the driver and the car to itself. This ensures peace of mind to the car owner that in the unfortunate event of any damage to the insured vehicle or the insured driver, the financial consequences of the accident will be covered. Hence, a comprehensive cover is preferable but not compulsory. We also recommend that you buy add-on policy for your vehicle, as it covers your car for other features that own damage policy and third-party will not cover. Some of the add-on policies include Depreciation Cover, Engine Safe Cover, Passenger Assist Cover, Gap Value, Key Loss Cover, Roadside Assistance Cover, Consumable Cover.
What is Insured Declared Value?
IDV reflects the value of the motor vehicle determined based on the manufacturer's listed selling Price of the vehicle and depreciation based on the age of the vehicle. It will be fixed at the commencement of each policy period for each insured vehicle.
