About Car Insurance in Nagpur
Nagpur is the winter capital of Maharashtra, and the state’s third largest city after Mumbai and Pune. Apart from being known for its oranges, the city is also famous for the Zero Mile marker, indicating the geographical center of India. Erected by the British who used this point to measure all the distances in colonial India; the Zero Mile Stone, located south east of the Vidhan Bhavan, comprises four horses and a sandstone pillar. Nagpur is also known for the Deekshabhoomi, the world’s largest Buddhist hollow stupa, where the father of India’s constitution BR Ambedkar converted to Buddhism on 14 October 1956. It is also the birthplace of Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, who founded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh there in 1925.Read More

Types of car insurance policies
While there are essentially two types of policies – Third Party and Comprehensive Liberty General Insurance offers a host of additional covers.
Third Party Insurance
The Motor Vehicle Act of 1988 has deemed it mandatory to own third-party insurance. Driving without it is a punishable offence under the act. This policy, however, only covers loss or damage suffered by a third party in case of an accident arising out of the use of the insured vehicle. Remember that it does not cover any loss or damage to the insured vehicle or to the insured.
As the name suggests, this is an all-inclusive policy which offers complete coverage for loss or damage to the third party as well as to you in case of theft or an accident.
Own Damage (OD) Cover
This policy covers damage caused by fire, explosion, lightning, burglary or housebreaking or theft, riots and strikes, earthquakes (fire and shock damage), typhoons or floods, riots and malicious acts, terror activity, etc.
What insurance is not covered in case of Own Damage policy?
- Damages to a third party vehicle (If you want coverage for both - own as well as third party damages then buy comprehensive Car insurance)
- Damage caused to a third-party property
- Injuries caused to other people in an accident
- Normal wear-and-tear of the vehicle
- Mechanical and electrical breakdown
- A vehicle being used other than in accordance with the limitations as to use. For example, if you use your Private car for commercial purposes.
- Damage to/by person driving without a valid driving license
- Loss or damage caused while riding under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating substance
- Consequential loss.
Liberty General Insurance gives you the option to choose various add-on covers such as depreciation cover, passenger assist, consumable cover, engine safe cover, GAP value cover, Key loss cover, and roadside assistance cover.
How do I renew my car insurance policy for a car in Nagpur?
If you are a new car owner or want to port your insurance policy from another company to LGI online, you can do so either online or offline.
Once you buy the policy or renew it, a soft copy will be sent to your email address, while the policy document will be mailed to your registered home or office address. We encourage you to buy and renew your policy online, as it is also a green initiative.
Should I buy third-party or comprehensive car insurance?
Third-party car insurance is mandatory according to the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988. However, it is advisable to buy a comprehensive car insurance, as third-party car insurance only covers third-party liability, and any damage to your car will not be covered. You can choose one of several Liberty General car insurance policies that cater to your requirements to ensure that you don’t feel the pinch in case your car is damaged.
What are add-on covers?
Add on covers, also known as add-on riders, are those covers that help you provide all-round protection to your car, over and above what your car insurance policy covers. You can choose from a wide range of add-on covers including:
- Depreciation cover
- Passenger Assist
- Consumables cover
- Engine safe cover
- Gap value cover
- Key loss cover
- Road-side Assistance cover
These riders are not a part of your insurance policy and you have to pay separate premiums to purchase them.
Why purchase car insurance online?
Buying a car insurance online allows you to consider various policies on offer and select the one which suits you from the comfort of your home or office. Apart from saving time and money, you often get discounts which are not available when you buy the policy offline.
